Black people in African and around the world come in a variety of complexions but I've noticed that here in America the lighter skin women are valued more. While dark skin and brown skin Black men are highly recognized and valued as sex symbols. Why is that? Even in African American magazines, networks, music videos and TV shows, the fair skin girl is always appreciated more.
Why are dark skin and brown skin women so underrepresented in the media?
My thought is, that even though the US is supposed to be so open minded towards those of different heritage, white ,asian black( all Shades) that we are still prejudiced, which is wrong but the US is slow to change.
Why are dark skin and brown skin women so underrepresented in the media?
It's a fad I guess. With white girls it's the tanner the better although we've got a fairer representation of varying skin tones in the media. I never really got the lighter the better thing with black people though, I find darker skin more attractive but I guess that's just me.
Reply:please don't be offended by this. I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings.
black women have strong personalities. people don't want to be reminded of this while trying to enjoy themselves. i know myself that no race or gender is the same individuals are different, but this is the stereo type.
Reply:no their not . its just you, look at j.lo and condoleeza rice and not to mention all the women in music videos and such. white women are undervalued.
