My son started swimming lessons 3 days ago at the inside swimming pool. The chlorine and long time water exposure dries out his skin head to toe, and his skin gets all dry and sand paper like.
He is 12 years old, what things should I bring to the pool and use on him to protect his skin?
Skin all dried out from chlorine water? EW?
Hmmmm, as soon as he gets out the pool, get him to shower off all the chlorine and then apply moisturiser all over himself, or talcum powder. I find, that helps, as i am always in the pool myself, and my face goes really dry!

just make sure he puts on nivea body cream after he swims. His 'dried skin' seems a bit rash, maybe you should check him for a chlorine allergy.
Reply:Before he dresses to go to pool, rub petroleum jelly on his arms, legs and feet. I've even include face, and sometimes scalp. His clothes will get rid of the excess, and his skin will be protected before he gets into the pool. Make sure he showers right after he gets out of pool, and applies petroleum jelly or other "moisturizer" of choice.
My understanding is that moisturizers protect skin by allowing the skin time to replenish our natural moisturizers, so they work more as sealants than actually moisturize.
Although prepping skin before and after swimming sounds time consuming, we might be talking a total of 5 minutes. Compare that to 23 hours and 55 minutes of relief, and maybe those 5 are a good investment.
