Which type of skin is more prone to skin cancer?

I am a beige color skin with really dark brown hair. Do I have a high risk of getting skin cancer? And which type of skin has the highest risk of getting skin cancer?
Which type of skin is more prone to skin cancer?
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the Unites States. Known risk factors for skin cancer include the following:

* Complexion - Skin cancers are more common in people with light-colored skin, hair, and eyes.

* Genetics - Having a family history of melanoma increases the risk of developing this cancer.

* Age - Nonmelanoma skin cancers are more common after age 40.

* Sun exposure and sunburn - Most skin cancers occur on areas of the skin that are regularly exposed to sunlight or other ultraviolet radiation. This is considered the primary cause of all skin cancers.

Skin cancer can develop in anyone, not only people with these risk factors. Young, healthy people -- even those with with dark skin, hair, and eyes -- can develop skin cancer.
Which type of skin is more prone to skin cancer?
The type that is exposed to the sun too much.
Reply:I think everyone should be careful in the sun but the highest risk is fair (light) skin. Think of Nicole Kidman...
Reply:Fair headed people are more prone buy ALL skin types and colors CAN get skin cancer. SPF 50!!!
Reply:White. And by white I don't mean the race, I mean the skin color. I know some black people who look pretty white like my stepmom and she is one of those who has to wear a lot of protection. The less melanin in the skin the less protected. That's one reason why darker people don't get sun-burned. The more prone to sunburn the higher the risk of skin cancer.

Darker people can get skin cancer, it just doesn't happen at that high of a rate. Everyone should wear skin protection no matter their color though.
Reply:you are at the medium risk of acquiring skin cancer . the skin which is most revealed to the sun .

the white and blond skin type is at the highest risk of acquiring it

the black and brown type has the least risk of acquiring it
Reply:Dear

In general,

the darker your skin is, the less vulnerable it is to develop cancer that is produced by sun exposure.

Secondly, the more you expose the skin to sunlight, the more the chance to develop cancer.
Reply:Here's a video on HealthiNation.com about how to examine your skin for skin cancer. It also talks about who is more prone to skin cancer...

Reply:red heads with very fair skin have the greater chance of getting skin cancer. Now that being said anyone can get skin cancer with to much sun. The problem is as teens we don't see or hear that much about skin cancer so we think it will never happen to us. When your older in your 40 that's when it will turn up and bite you. Take care of your skin at an early age and you will better off for it. I know tan is in. I have black hair, olive skin, thought I was safe. Lived in Calif. loved the sun, 40 came and so did the cancers on my face. Not allot of fun, be safe stay out of the sun.
Reply:All of the above information says a lot. Now I want to add - if you have skin - you can get skin cancer. Research is finding blacks with dark complexions, Hispanics, and West Indians showing melanomas.

My husband has been fighting an acute melanoma the past 6 months (6 surgeries). He is Polish, fair skinned and never spent much time in the sun. He used sun screen and yet, under his hair, behind his ear, he developed a nasty melanoma almost over night.

I cannot beg people enough to take care in the sun, avoid tanning booth and be vigilant in seeing a doctor if you suspect something. This is not a cancer that fights fair. They keep cutting pieces out of my husband, but it comes back and at the moment, we don't have a lot of alternatives.

Stay safe!!
