Help with skin problems!!!?

Ok so I have eczema and all so I put some baby oil on my skin when I got out the shower the other day. A few hours later, I broke out into hives that seemed to make my skin even more dry. In fact, my hands were flaky and felt like sandpaper. Is this normal? Can anyone tell me why my skin got drier after putting on baby oil?

It sounds like you had an allergic reaction to the baby oil. Especially since you mentioned that your hands started peeling also. I think it would be a good idea to see a dermatologist, though. Eczema can have a variety of causes, allergies being one of them. If you can pinpoint the cause of your eczema, you may be able to eliminate it all together. Good luck.

For eczema: there has been some success with Vitamin E oil. Take internally 300 IU every day, and increase that amount for flare-ups. However, not everyone responds in the same way to every remedy. If vitamin E is not helpful, remember that zinc too, is great for skin problems. Try 50 mg in tablet form every day.

Allergy to baby oil, because your skin is highly sensitive from the eczema to start with. Be gentle to your skin and good to yourself.
Reply:Baby Oil is HORRIBLE if you have eczema. About the worst thing you can put on!!! It traps heat. Don't do that again.

Instead....use a petroleum based product like Vaseline. These are the best for eczema.

My dermotologist told me so!!!
Reply:baby oil is usually scented that means it has perfumes in it so it will irritate u'r skin cuz u have eczema and that means u'r skin is really sensitive my niece has eczema and her dad only uses aveno products on her skin it's expensive but it works really good
Reply:well i have had eczema before aswell. don't ever apply oils in the first place. see a dermatologist and he/she will help just follow their directions. that's how i worked mine. if you don't want to spend money on medications then just wash your face daily 3 times without any oils or anything and then apply a moisturing lotion your face while your face is stilll wet, thils helps you get rid of eczema and it softens your skin makes it look beautiful and healthy and you'll have no pimples if you have any. so give it a try.
Reply:putting a product on after the shower is very good, but baby oil is very bad, it contains perfumes and stuff. You need to use a water based lubricant or a lotion such as Curel, Eucerin, Neutrogena, or any of those types of rich lotions. Another expensive option is to visit the Dermatologist who can prescribe you a cream that is specially formulated for your eczema. Dont use oils though, ok?!
Reply:Eczema is a disease that needs to be controlled with proper medication. Baby oils and the likes will only help to lubricate your skin and prevent the itching therefrom. See a local dermatologist who will prescribe medicines for you. Preferably avoid using steroid-based medication. Homeopathy has good scope in the treatment of Eczema so see if you can get a good Homeopath in your local area.

Meanwhile, use thick cream-based application for your skin (Vaseline, Petroleum Jelly, etc.)

Hope you will be fine soon!
