Bleaching one's skin? A few months ago there was a pretty young African woman siting next to me at work?

she was working as a temp and she was constantly chec king web sites about skin bleaching. I was really intreigued by it. She was obvioulsy intending to bleach her skin. I would have liked to talk to her about it but I did not dare. How come a beautiful young laidy can consider bleaching her skin. I am a white male and I don't understand why she was obsessed by that? Could a black person explain to me why they wsould like to bleach their skin. There are so many web sites about it, there must be lots of people doing it.

Some people are uncomfortable in their own skin. Some have uneven skin tones. what ever her reason is, I just hope you can recognize her whenever she does what she does.....

Reply:She's probably trying to look like the women she sees in Western magazines, movies, billboards etc. It seems to be happening to people all over the world. That's why some people dislike globalization.
Reply:cause she must not be all there, god gave us what we have sometimes ppl wanna change but not to that extreme
Reply:it most probably has to do with culture or society. i'm indian and we love to be fair skinned so much that back in my homland they sell fairness which lighten your skin.
Reply:You might have scars that she wants to even up. Honestly I wouldn't talk to her about it. It might turn ugly. If you want, you can leave articles on the dangers of bleaching the skin.
