Hi there,
I've never really suffered from spots, and I barely looked after my skin as a teenager, but a few years back when I was 26, I had a mirena implanted and ever since then my skin has got worse and worse. I have a big do this weekend for work where I have to look good and I have suddenly broken out in tons of spots. They are virtually covering my forehead, all red lumps, lots of them, and they're coming up on my chin, and my cheeks. What can I do to get rid of them really quickly? Also, I used a spot treament cream and I have patches of immensely dry flakey skin that make up looks awful over.
Help me please, I look awful!
Sudden skin condition deterioration, any advice?
Hormones in the mirena is the culprit!! Spot treatment creams are very harsh, if you miss the spot, so to speak it inflames the good skin. Try a gentle exfoliator, to get rid of dry skin. dab of toothpaste on offenders helps dry them out. Avoid foundation, try a bronzer powder instead. foundation gives you a flat colour that shows up bumps more.
Or try good old sudocream, popular for nappy rash but does the trick too. Good Luck :-)

sounds like the mirena is making things worse.Make an appointment with your dr.If you cant afford that try a clinic.Couldnt hurt!!

Reply:This sounds like it could be nerves, anxiety, an excess of adrenalin in yr bloodstream. As an aromatherapist i would suggest lavender, it calms almost anything, also geranium oil, both added 1 drop of essential oil to about 30ml of almond oil, all available at Boots or any other chemist. Both are balancing oils and lavender will heal burns. Also you could do yrself a favour and stop repeating the images in yr head that are winding you up : ]
Reply:Use an aspirin mask - it contains salycilic acid which helps dry up pimples quick. You can google this too, but heres the basics : Take 4 uncoated aspirin tablets and put a few drops of water on them , so they dissolve in your hand. Next, add a small amount of face wash and work it into a paste. Rub the paste gently on your face for 30 seconds, (this is mild dermabrasion and will help dryness). Let it sit for up to 20 minutes, to help dry out your pimples. Then rinse it well, pat dry, and apply witch hazel to calm your skin. Apply some good oil free moisturizer right after this (jojoba oil works well). I do this twice a day for a day or two when needed, but I wouldnt do it any more than that.
If you dont moisturize, you could be causing trauma to your already dry skin, causing it to break out more. Don't use the treatment cream anymore - its too much for you. If you want to use makeup, I suggest a good coverage foundation, mixed in with the face cream and applied that way to minimize dryness. And above all dont worry - people will not be looking at your spots - only children and snide teenagers make comments about that kind of thing. Good luck!
