Pheasant skin preserving.?

I found a fresh killed pheasant on the roadside. I've hung it and today I'm going to gut, skin and cook it. I want to preserve the skin complete with the feathers on. I've just been to the chemist to get alum but they don't stock it anymore. Can you advise me on how I can preserve the skin, not forgetting all the shops will be shut over the Easter hols?
Pheasant skin preserving.?
Once you have the pheasant skinned stretch it and tack it to a board. Now you will need some 20 mule team borax, laundry detergent. Apply this to the pheasant skin and rub it in well. This will draw out the fat and moisture in the skin. You will have to scrape this borax off and apply new until it has completely dried the skin.Once you have dried the skin scrape off the borax and your skin will be ready to hang on the wall, the feathers will never fall out using this method.

freeze it til you get some alum.
Reply:I am puzzled that you wish to preserve the skin and feathers unless you are about to dive into fairly advanced taxidermy.

Alum has been superseded by commercial preparations so I suggest you look at some Taxidermy sites to find details of current preservatives.

My instinct would be stretch the skin on a board pending acquisition of some preservative.

As the skin become rather fragile after hanging, I wish you luck skinning the pheasant.
