Can anyone share their glycolic treatment experience with me?
Toushka- if I could hear from you, it would be great!
I discover the 'power' of glycolic acid 3 months ago when I purchased a glycolic cleanser from a salon..I use it twice a day (morning and night) and have a fab clear complexion now..no more spots, nor uneven skin tone..
I also do home microdermabrasion once a week to get rid of dead skin cells..which I find gives me a bit of a glow..
I am interested to find out about more glycolic treatments. Do you think it is better to do it at the salons? What's your glycolic and skin care regime?
Glycolic acid skin treatments?
Use products with 15-20% glycolic acid. There are glycolic creams and lotions available in stores. But it's not for daily use, just every other day. You don't need a salon for this.
But there are also glycolic solutions, these have a higher glycolic content and are much more potent than creams or lotions. Dermatologists would apply this once a week only.
You need professional assistance with solutions but not with creams or lotions.

Glycolic acid skin treatments?
I would only do the glycol thing at a beauty salon. I would be wary of home treatments as my skin is sensitive. I heard they are great on normal and oily skin types but for me they never really were a success. But hey if it works for you go for it. However I did once hear someone say that extended use can thin the skin too much and this isn't good as you age so just be careful not to overdo!
Reply:After 9 years of smoking I had a problem with dull skin and larger pores, also my forhead skin was really a state, leathery and discoloured probably sun damage too from trying to get a "glow" from tanning (I have olive skin which can be sallow at times) I discovered avon two step peel, although my sister got a home microdermabrasion kit, my skin was irritated when I tried it so I gave up on home microdermabrasion and went to a salon for professional treatment, after my first session it was great but after the third I didnt really see anything significant and at 拢60.00 a time it was getting dissappointing. So I started using Avon 2 step peel daily instead of every other day, my skin improved but after 2 weeks it kinda stopped working so I thought i'd get something stronger which is No 7 gentle glycolic peel. I also used this and bended the rules by leaving it on longer and saw a great improvement and decided to turn it up a notch and get something stronger so I found this website called www.perfectskinuk.com and am using their products now but still use dermalogica anti-bac wash. My skin always looks like I've just had a facial now and my pores look smaller every week!

Biore for break out-prone skin, it has mask, nose strips, moisturizer with SPF, cleanser, toner... generally you should at least wash your face twice a day, in the morning and before bed, use a toner after and moisturize.
I've also tried the clean %26amp; clear products, but didn't find any of them particularly effective, some are a bit harsh for my skin as well.
Clinique 3 step system is great as well. toner, moisturizer, cleanser work together to improve the all over condition for the skin. They also have spot treatments for acne.
Reply:st. ives medicated apricot scrub. this stuff is AWESOME. use it every 2 or 3 days (depending on how sensitive your skin is) and put on moisturizer afterwards (either pond's or olay) and you skin will feel so soft! it's reduced my breakouts soo much. i occaisonally get a couple of whiteheads, but i haven't had an actual pimple in over a month.
Reply:Netroange it ROCKS!!!!!!!! i have never had a zit i use cure acne before it comes scrub never a zit not once

The best skin treatment??
I have very difficult skin to treat and was hoping to find a good solution. My skin is very dry, but oily in certain areas on my face. On top of that my face is sensitive to most products i've tried. What are some really good face cleansers for oily and dry skin. But isn't too strong and wont cause me to break out.
I'm just looking for a cleanser not an acne treatment. I dont have acne, but I occasionally have a break out. I also get isolated pimples that pop up. They usually come 1 at a time, but they stay for about a week b4 even starting to go away and nothing seems to work for it.
The best skin treatment??
Try Aveeno moisturizing bar. I have sensitive oily skin with some dry patches due to Retin-A use. My dermatologist recommended this bar and I think it's great. It cleanses away makeup and oil well, but doesn't dry out my skin (which has been a problem for me with other cleansers). It's fine if you use moisturizer on just the dry spots. Try Aveeno Ultra Calming moisturizers. They work well for me. In the mornings you can try using the original Cetaphil cleanser. It's very mild and will not dry out your skin. Skin doesn't need to be cleansed with as strong a cleanser in the morning as in the evening.
Try a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment product. Neutrogena has one. Use it just on the pimple so as not to irritate your surrounding skin.
The best skin treatment??

As for a home remedy...make some quick oat meal, slap the mush on your face for... no more than five minutes, take it off and get an ice cube and rub it all over your face. I'm serious, I do it all the time, totally pimple and black head free!

Oily face, skin lost colour?
I dont understand why my skin has darkened and it is most of the time oily. It was not like this before. I drink water more than used to and I have stopped myself from drinking other drinks like pepsi etc. Do orange and carrot juices help? If so then how much shud i drink per day? Please give me some natural remedies get a good skin which looks fresh and glowing. I also want my skin colour back on my face and on the lips. Thanks
Oily face, skin lost colour?
I have always had an acme problem until recently. I had a friend suggest a product called Cetaphil (they sell it at Wal-mart and pretty much anywhere). I have never heard of it before but of course those of us with acme problems will try anything. So I bought a big bottle for 14.99 I am amazed with the results and have not had a single sit resurface since I have been washing my face day and night with it. It also leaves your face feeling soft and not over dried like the Neutrogena was doing to my face. I have attached the website link below so check it out. I hope this helps.
A friend who had acme problems who cares.

maybe you are getting tanned? or going though a faze?

OMG MY SKIN! Im scared my Acne will RETURN! :O?
Ok, my skin is easily irritated, and I no longer have serious acne, I did like in 7th grade, but now my face is nearly clear, Im now in 11th, I think drinking pure water all year has helped alot, but now I want greater results, and I want it to clear completely, no little zits, or irritation, I just want smooth skin,
Can I have some insight on ways to get clearer/smoother skin, and I don't like that cheap acne medication that smells like Clorox,
Can some one give me some names of awesome acne creams, or other remedies :) thanx :D
OMG MY SKIN! Im scared my Acne will RETURN! :O?
Over the counter products rarely help bad acne but trying never hurt. Wash your skin with a mild cleanser everyday and apply something with Benzoyl Peroxide all over your face at night. Using a scrub once a week may help with blackheads and white heads but don't use it if you have inflamed pimples. This can spread bacteria and may make the lesions worse.
The best thing to do is go to the Dermatologist if you can and get a medication, external or internal, that suits the kind of acne you have. Antibiotics work well for inflamed acne because it kills bacteria on the skin. Benzaclin is a cream with a topical antibiotic and Benzoyl Peroxide. Retin-A or Differin gel make your skin slough off alot faster to help blackheads and whiteheads clear up. All of these are drying at first but after using them awhile your skin will adjust and get used to them.
Drinking lots of water is good for your skin, gives a healthy glow and helps release toxins. Not to mention keeps you hydrated and lessens the chance of wrinkles which you probably don't care about now but think long term. keep drinking that water!
I have suffered with acne it seems like forever. As I get older it just changes. Take care of it now and get it under control. Acne is treatable and can be eliminated for most people especially with a doctor's help.

Reply:These are the aspects you have to take into account:
To control acne:
1) Keep sebum secretion under control using sea kelp bioferment, niacinamide and EGCG from green tea.
2) Normalize keratinization and prevent the exfoliated keratinocytes from sticking together, closing the pore. Go for white willow bark extract, which will also reduce inflammation. Other helpful actives are sulfur, retinyl acetate (or other retinoids). Chemical peels will also help but make sure that the glycolic and other acids are not neutralized using bases like sodium hydroxide, a common ploy used to impress consumers with high concentrations of acid that will do nothing because they have been converted into (useless) salts.
3) Decrease inflammation with actives like white liquorice extract. Avoid steroids, anti-inflammatories that everybody likes because they are so fast. With prolonged use they may cause skin atrophy and steroid acne.
4) Kill acne bacteria: tea tree oil, Coleus essential oil. Propolis should also work but many of our clients do not like the smell. Avoid benzoyl peroxide, which will kill bacteria but will also age your skin and increase the probability of skin cancer.
5) For men and women: inhibit the activity of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase using saw palmetto and wild yam extracts, this active will reduce skin androgens, reducing the frequency of acne lesions.
What NOT to do
Don't use benzoyl peroxide. This chemical is a strong oxidant, and the idea is to use it to kill the acne bacteria. The problem is, you are killing your own cells too. There must have been a time when benzoyl peroxide seemed like a good idea, but with what we have learnt about the effect of oxidant on cells, and how the are a major cause of skin aging, it is time to forget about it and go for more sophisticated tools. Sophisticated does not mean more expensive. Skin Actives Scientific is now selling a kit for under $30 that will help control sebum production (and sebum is the bacteria's favorite food!), skin renewal (so that pores are kept open and do not turn into comedos) plus anti-inflammatory actives.
Good luck and best wishes
